gift card value exceeds my balance .. Carnival Cruise Lines Cruise Critic Community

Whether you are given the card as a gift or promotion, or if you win one through a raffle or other event, it can be a great way to pay for extra fun on your Fun Ship cruise. Or as ZoeyVictoria suggested prepay your gratuities then still take the cards onboard and have the balance added to your account. Do not do the cruise cash as there is NO advantage to that financially but there is RISK. I called the (800) number for Carnival and the rep wouldn't accept the cards' entire balance, either. She suggested I pay the remainder on my credit card and use gift card to buy cruise cash (which would vanish if, for some reason, we were unable to cruise...correct?).

You can either purchase a physical card to send enclosed with a personal message or choose a digital version that the recipient can open online with personalized audio and photos. Traditional plastic cards can be mailed, although it can take a couple of weeks. As a note, most cruise lines will not mail gift cards outside of the United States but will allow e-cards for Canadian residents. You may be responsible for the shipping costs that apply to traditional cards. If you have already paid for your next Carnival cruise, it isn’t too late to use gift cards. If you opt to prepay for shore tours or spa treatments, gift cards can be applied to those costs.

After You Check Your Carnival Gift Card Balance, Cash It In

You can turn off Easy Pay, and then simply apply the gift cards to your balance. If you don't turn off Easy Pay, any applied gift cards will reduce your total amount due and then reduce the amount of all of your remaining Easy Pay payments. I guess my confusion comes in that I don't have a 'make a payment' option. The only options are to pay the balance in full or opt out of easy pay.

Royal Caribbean has quietly upgraded its gift cards to be much more useful.

Do you have some leftover money on your gift card but too little to afford something at Carnival? Depending on your state’s gift card laws and regulations, there is a chance you won’t be able to return your gift card for cash. E-Cards come in two designs—the regular and a birthday one. You can send your card via email or pick between several printable greeting cards if you want to give it to someone in person. Besides a personal note, Carnival also allows you to include a photo with the email or greeting card to make the gift even more heartfelt.

Our first stop when we got on the ship is to go to Guest Services to add on  gift cards to our account. Just make sure you get a receipt and keep the gift cards just in case there is a problem later on, which happened once to us. These advance purchase vouchers can be used to pay for cruises of six days or longer and are valued at double the price. You can transfer these vouchers to another person as a gift without a charge.

If you'd like to use the card as an onboard credit, you must go to the guest services desk or Sail & Sign kiosk to apply the gift card as payment for your onboard bill once you're on the ship. Princess specifies “Digital gift cards redeemed by Canadian residents can only be used towards cruise passage for bookings made in US Dollars”. Royal Caribbean notes that gift cards must be redeemed ahead of time, especially for payment toward the cruise fare. That being said, the credit cannot be applied towards the cruise fare. After your cruise, if you have extra funds available from the gift card or cards you applied to your onboard account, you will be mailed a new gift card with the remaining balance.

Alternatively, you can always hang on to those gift cards and apply them to you S&S account when you board or use them to purchase excursions or items from the Fun Shops prior to sailing. Norwegian Cruise Line ended its gift card program in 2021, but you still can send gifts to cruisers in the form of an onboard credit or spa credit. Mandara Spa certificates are offered in amounts of $25, $50 and $100. Holland America offers gift cards in denominations between $5 and $2,000 that are available to buy on its website.

We will forward your request to Carnival right away, and you can expect the money in your mailbox within 14 days of your request submission. Oh yes we usually make Freeport our "stay on the ship" day since we've seen all we care to see there. We'll send you the latest cruise updates daily to your inbox.

The first will show the total amount due, the second is the option to pay the balance in full, the third is to make a partial payment. Other than the steakhouse one night maybe and a few drinks here and there (we're not big drinkers), I can't see us spending much. We've been to the ports of call many times so we usually just stay on the ship, or get off and walk around for an hour or so and get back on. We will probably wait until midway through the cruise and redeem at guest services is what I'm thinking.

If you don't use all of that, it is the same method of cashing it out as gift cards, using the Casino Trick. Celebrity Cruises has an online store where you can purchase onboard credit to celebrate someone's birthday, honeymoon, anniversary or other memorable occasion while on their cruise. To send the gift, you'll need to know some personal information, including the birth date of the recipient or the reservation number for the booking. You can order the gift of onboard credits on Norwegian's website. I think I noticed this glitch when I used a gift card to purchase excursions, if you're talking about the same thing I'm thinking about.

You can also look for Black Friday sales on Disney gift cards at Sam's Club and other promotions offered through the cruise lines or retailers. It must be noted that Carnival Cruise Line gift cards are not valid on sailings that use non-United States currency onboard. Cruises departing from Australia, then, cannot use gift cards.

You will have to enter the amount you wish to pay there, click the "select" button, and on the next page select "Pay by Gift Card" near the top of the page. I woukd probably use the cards at guest services the night before the cruise ends. I haven’t had good luck applying them at the kiosk and end up going to guest services.
